Darbuka Workshop in Istanbul by Hakan Kaya

The workshop will be profitable for every student with a basic experience in darbuka and will include the below topics:

  • Basic playing techniques of darbuka (Turkish Split Hand Technique).
  • Gypsy (roman) rhythms with darbuka.
  • Most famous Turkish rhythms (9/8, 7/8…).
  • Combination of rhythms.
  • Timing and sharp sound exercises.
  • Ideas for belly dance accompaniment.

When: 5 days between 14-18 June 2017. There will be 4 hours of intensive course per day and a concert the last day with other Turkish guest musicians.

Location: Hakan Kaya Rhythm Studio, Galata/Istanbul.

Fee: €250.00

It is necessary to bring a darbuka. It would be useful for you to bring a notebook and pen in order to take notes as well as a recording or video device.

If you need a place to practice, we can organize it for you.

For master players, private lessons can be arranged both from Hakan Kaya and from other invited Turkish darbuka master players during the workshop days. Private lesson fee is €50.00 per hour

We advice you to use the airport shuttle service HAVATAS There are buses coming from the airports (Ataturk Airport and Sabiha Gokçen Airport) to Taksim Square every 30 minutes.
